Admissions

The Academy of Cinema and Television (ACT) is a private school for the performing arts specializing in professional television acting, fashion commercial print modeling, film, singing and/or dance workshops. Our admissions process is by invitation only and we accept only the most talented students to attend our workshops. We work with students to hone their talents, teach them auditioning skills and ultimately introduce them to industry professionals. Casting directors and agents look to ACT for fresh faces and talented newcomers outside of the Los Angeles area. An auditioning applicant must fit the type cast open, have a high level of commitment, and they must be talented.

As with any school, we look to the parents for support and cooperation when deciding on admission. Family encouragement and commitment is essential to a student’s success, and it is for this reason we interview the parents as well.

At ACT, we hold “open auditions” on selected dates to observe new talent. For many of you, this will be the first of many auditions to come. It is an exciting process and one that will determine whether or not ACT feels as though the applicant has the raw talent necessary to do well in the industry. In this audition, our director will speak to everybody as a group regarding vital industry information. After our director’s address, everyone will be seen individually. At that time you will be asked several basic questions, and then given a commercial “cold read” to perform on camera. The ACT admissions staff will then make their decisions based on availability or opening in a type cast (based on age, height, hair color, eye color and ethnicity), industry knowledge, GPA (Grade Point Average), and performance on camera.

1. Our auditioning process can last several weeks and generally includes four to five hundred people.

2. We professionally assess the candidates on a selected day.

3. We select the strongest talent for the type cast and close the division.

The Callback

Everyone auditioning will receive a designated time to receive audition results. If the talent is under the age of 18, the parent who attended the audition should be the one to call us back for results. It is ACT’s policy not to go over audition results with talent under the age of 18 or with a parent who was not at the audition.

Callback Checklist

1. The parent who attended the audition is the one calling for audition results. (We will not go over audition results with a parent who did not attend the audition.)

2. Both parents (if applicable) have read the packet of information

thoroughly and entirely. Please do not call back if you and your spouse have not had the opportunity to read this packet.

3. Please make sure that you call the specific phone number listed on the call back slip.

Thank you for your cooperation and GOOD LUCK!
