A lack of manners and courtesy at an audition shows disrespect, no matter who you are. If you’re being disrespectful toward the folks running any type of audition, acting like a spoiled brat or primadonna can kill an opportunity faster than you can say, “Exit stage right.” Keep the following pointers in mind whenever auditioning:
- Never touch the talent scout or casting director. No touch any of his/her possessions, such as the notepad, laptop computer, cameras, clothing, food, etc. Doing so will definitely work against you.
- Never smoke or chew gum during your audition. If you must smoke, do it outside where no one can see you. Always be sure your smoke won’t interfere or bother with others.
- If you are given a script page or any type of material to study prior to being auditioned, be sure you study/read/practice very quietly being careful not to intrude on the other individuals also preparing.
- If you need to ask a question, do your best to catch someone of authority at a time when it is apparent you won’t be interrupting their work.

Having such outlined rules is nice for someone just entering into the business. The Academy of Cinema and Television really go out of their way to make sure their students are as prepared as they can be for anything they encounter. The information that they give their students and outside people is so very helpful and informative.
